1997 Heritage Springer FLSTS

VIN# 1HD1BRL11VY010048

Introduced in 1997, the Heritage Springer revived the classic look of 1940s–50s Harley “springer” front ends while delivering modern performance and reliability.  It was a nostalgic tribute model, with a leading-link springer front suspension, wide valanced fenders, fringed leather saddlebags, and retro badging.  Underneath the vintage styling is the proven 1340cc Evolution V-Twin, 5-speed transmission, and Softail frame with hidden rear shocks for comfort.

The White with Red Ribbons Paint Scheme

  • The Birch White with Red pinstripe/ribbon accents was the most iconic and collectible color scheme offered in 1997.
  • It was directly inspired by the 1949 Hydra-Glide factory paint style, which had similar flowing red accents on a white base.
  • The look instantly connected Harley fans to the company’s golden postwar era, when Harley was defining the American cruiser style.
  • The saddlebags, fringes, conchos, and red trim tied the whole nostalgic package together — making it stand out among all Softails of the 1990s.

Why It’s So Special & Collectible

  • First-Year Model – 1997 was the very first year of the Heritage Springer (FLSTS), making it a cornerstone collectible.
  • Springer Front End – By the 1990s, springer forks were virtually extinct on production bikes. Harley reintroduced it exclusively on this model.
  • Limited Production – Harley didn’t mass-produce this model - only 1,500 were ever built. The Heritage Springer was meant to be a special retro-themed bike, not a high-volume seller.
  • Paint Scheme Rarity – While several colors were offered, the Birch White with Red ribbons was the rarest and most desired, commanding the highest collector premiums. Many collectors consider it the “holy grail” of FLSTS colors.
  • Cultural Impact – The styling was so striking that this bike quickly became a showpiece in dealerships and a favorite among collectors worldwide. Many were bought new and never ridden hard — preserved as future classics.

Less than 7,500 miles on the odometer.
